• Why is BER supporting Bioremediation Research? Answer: DOE’s Office of Environmental Management is responsible for the environmental management of 130 sites and facilities that have been contaminated in places with pollutants from the production of nuclear weapons. OBER’s basic research in bioremediation has the potential to be useful in the remediation and restoration of the contaminated locations at these sites.
