All United States Marines basic training is 12 and 1/2 weeks and are granted 10 days leave (vacation) immediately after basic training. Following leave, Marines who are in the Infantry Field (MOS of 0311 Rifleman, 0331 Machine gunner, 0341 Mortar-man, 0351 Assault-man, or 0352 Anti-Tank Guided Missleman ), attend the 51 day School of Infantry, at either Camp Lejeune, NC, or Camp Pendleton, CA. This school also doubles as their Marine Corps job school, so, upon graduation, they proceed to their first duty assignment. All other Marines attend the 22 day Marine Combat Training (MCT) course, also located at Camp Lejeune or Camp Pendleton. Upon graduation from this course, they proceed to their Marine Corps job training school.

Ok well if you’re comparing US marines to British army then You would have to compare them against British infantry training which is 28 Weeks Basic in 2 Phases. The parachute Regt. do 32 weeks (28 basic + 4 wks parachute training) The Royal Marines do 32 weeks basic also. As stated above a soldier never stops training anyway, i have been in for 18 years but still go on training courses, obviously due to changing weapons, radios, vehicles etc alot of things i trained with in Basic we no longer use now anyway. This is the same in the USA im sure their soldiers even with 18 years experience are still training and learning new skills as weapons and technology improve , Basic is basic no matter how long it lasts, nobody finishes basic as a great soldier they don’t start really learning their trades/skills until they actually join their each respected units and then start learning whatever there chosen trade/role is.

The reason for this is both armies have different doctrines as well as the US Army the Marines training dont end at Basic. All other countries dont use their Sergeant the same way US does. US Non Commissioned Officers how US call their sergeants have more training while they progress I for instance after Basic I did another 12 weeks of advance trainingfor my job which this varies by specialty, then I did 4 weeks for Sergeant, 12 Weeks for Staff Sergeant, 12 weeks for Sergeant First Class, 6 weeks for First Sergeant and the same goes for the Marines. In the USA the training never really ends.
