He was Vice President to William McKinley and took office when McKinley was assassinated. – JFK was the fourth president that was assassinated, and the youngest to die of all the presidents. – He was the first (Roman) Catholic president and the only one thus far. – He was a decorated WWII military hero, earning a Purple Heart, Navy and Marine Corps Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, and a World War II Victory Medal. – He was the first president to hold a televised press conference. – He was the only president ever awarded a Pulitzer Prize. – He created the Peace Corps. – He was a firm believer in racial integration and civil rights, and proposed a bill that posthumously became the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
