Why is TETRA particularly a health risk?
The health risks arise from the pulsed microwave radiation signal. TETRA uses a microwave carrier frequency of 395MHz – the same as a TV set – and divides the time up into groups of 4 which pulse at a frequency of 17.6Hz (pulses each second). Pulsing at 17.6Hz has been proved to cause calcium leakage from the brain in 7 separate experiments from the 1970s to the 1990s. The Stewart Report (2000) on mobile phones specifically recommended that pulsing at this frequency should be avoided. The effects of pulsing on healthThe leakage of calcium from brain tissue affects both the nervous and the immune systems. Because the human body is an electromagnetic instrument, it recognises and utilises external radiation, affecting bio-processes, causing damage to cells and tissue, and increasing enzymes implicated in cancer promotion. The radiation emitted can increase the risk of certain cancers and may cause headaches, sleep deprivation and concentration problems.
