Why is the US considered to be more pro Israel / anti Palestine when compared with other Western countries?
This is a complex question and there are quite a few reasons, so I’ll attempt to list a few in no particular order: 1) There’s a well-organized and influential political lobby in Washington that applies pressure on America’s elected leaders to support pro-Israel policies. The effect of this lobby was documented in Stephen Walt and John Mearsheimer’s controversial 2007 book The Israel Lobby and U.S Foreign Policy. 2) The United States has the second-highest population of Jewish people in the world behind Israel, and many American Jews are sympathetic and supportive of Israel. According to Wikipedia, nearly 80% of the world’s Jews live either in Israel or the United States. In no European country do Jews represent more than 1% of the population. 3) As Craig mentioned, quite a few evangelical Christians in the United States support the restoration of Biblical Israel (from the Mediterranean to the River Jordan) as a pre-condition to the return of the Messiah.
