Why isn Halloween big in Australia?
Maybe if we had the cultural background for it we might do it. If the only thing we see are American movies with scenes of little kids door knocking for lollies how shallow is that to base a whole holiday celebration around? If it stays like that then it will never take root and always be viewed as a kiddie thing. Also, the time of year is an issue. Its not really spooky to have nice warm sunny weather out when you door knock begging for lollies in an old bedsheet is it? Its also not that great to have straggles of kids who don’t bother to wear costumes at all waving old supermarket bags under your nose screaming trick or treat right on your tea time. The kids have NO IDEA about any of the traditions except that same screaching bloody phrase and the hope of free lollies. Not suprisingly they dont’ get much in their bags, if anything at all, where I live. And I am NOT part of the older generation by the way. I get how attractive it all looks on American movies and its marketed well, but
*Sadly, we had to bring back ads too. Hopefully more targeted.
