Why isn it possible to permanently delete files on a hard drive?
Hi, When a file is deleted only the header info is removed, the data is still there but the header is gone so it can’t be accessed in the normal way. The data will be eventually overwritten as it is marked a free space but until then a user with the right software can recover the data, The shredder and similar programs write a series of 1’s into all the spaces marked as blank, thereby deleting the data, To make doubly sure the spaces are over written several times as high tech software can analise the underlying magnetic fields and still recover some of the data. To be fair a normal format of the hard drive would be quite sufficient for nearly all reasonable purposes. It’s not like you will be storing super secret data!
It is possible to permanently delete files. Use CCleaner. With the advanced options you can wipe the files up to 35 times and even the FBI could not retrieve them. You DO NOT have to reinstall Windows to delete your personal files! http://www.filehippo.
