Why isn there a 5 V dc input PLC-RELAY available?
The biggest problem with creating a 5 V dc coil in the PLC-RELAY package is the required energy of about 250mW required to keep the coil energized. The corresponding current is 50mA and that together with the unstable temperature behavior of the relay at higher temperatures prevents us from presently launching such a product. Presently, our prototypes of a 5V dc PLC-RELAY switch on and off at 5V dc at temperatures higher than 25 Celsius (76 Fahrenheit). We will shortly be launching a PLC-OPTOCOUPLER (SSR) with a 5 V dc input, and that should be around the fourth quarter of 2000.
