Why isn there a “don know” response option?
The items on the questionnaire have been carefully designed to apply to the parents, students and staff who complete the questionnaires. The survey is about opinions, and in the main, everyone has an opinion. For this reason, the number of people who would need to answer “Don’t know” is expected to be very small. Fine judgements can be difficult to make, but it is better to provide an opinion than to respond “Don’t know”. If the person completing the questionnaire really cannot respond to an item or feel that it is not at all relevant, they are asked to leave that question blank and move to the next item. In previous years, the proportion of people who did not respond to each item was very small.
