Why isn there any active volcanoes in the uk?

This is and interesting question, as the UK is situated not too far from the meeting points of the Atlantic oceanic plate and the European continental plate. Fortunately for those of us in the UK it appears that there is little active subduction at then moment, The Northern American plates and the European plates are just moving away from one another so the oceanic plates on either side of the Atlantic are just pushing the continents apart, not pushing under the continents, as they are in the case of the various pacific oceanic plates and the eastern part of both the Northern and South American plates. Why this should be the case, I do not know, perhaps one day we may see an Atlantic ‘ring of fire’ in the same way as we have one in the Pacific if the Atlantic oceanic plates start actively subducting.
