Why not use petroleum based candles?
Paraffin wax is a byproduct of petroleum. Petroleum is drilled from the earth, rather than farmed naturally as a renewable energy. Paraffin wax candles raise the issue of toxicity; the burning of the wax is know to release at least eleven known toxins, two of which are known carcinogens (toluene and benzene.) In addition to health concerns, the smoke emitted from paraffin candles is what leaves visibly evident soot stains on home interiors and furniture. Most paraffin wax candles loose their scent approximately one hour after being lit, which is a major drawback to candles intended to function as aromatherapy. Paraffin wax burns at a higher temperature than soy wax and consequently burns much faster (at twice the rate,) which makes paraffin wax candles less cost-effective.
