Why should end-of-life care be any less compassionate or complete?
History: Hospice of Helping Hands, Inc. was established in 1979. Since that time, it has continued to grow and has become recognized as a source of compassionate, comprehensive care for the terminally ill and their families. It is a non-profit organization. Hospice emphasizes quality of life by keeping the patient as comfortable as possible while remaining at home. With caring and professional attitudes, the hospice team helps patients and their families prepare for death in ways that are acceptable to them. After death, Hospice continues to assist the family with bereavement services and support for 15 months. West Branch Regional Medical Center has promoted and assisted with the development of Hospice of Helping Hands, Inc. In 1991, this program became a licensed hospice under the Michigan Department of Public Health guidelines and was granted Medicare certification.
