Why study population dynamics?
Population dynamics is the study of the changes in numbers of living organisms and includes reproduction and mortality. Because the oceans are teeming with organisms of all sizes, they provide a rich environment for study. Dr. Plourdes research focuses on the Subarctic and Arctic, bounded by the arctic waters of the North Atlantic (Labrador Sea, Norwegian Sea and Greenland Sea) and by the Gulf Stream to the south. The Gulf of St. Lawrence, the Scotian Shelf, Georges Bank, the Labrador coast, and the Grand Banks of Newfoundland are part of the Subarctic.
