Sign Communication Proficiency Interview (SCPI) label was changed in June of 2006 to Sign Language Proficiency Interview (SLPI) by the creators of this evaluation tool, William Newell and Frank Caccamise of National Technical Institute of the Deaf, (NDIT) of Rochester New York.
