Why the Nullarbor desert?

0

The Nullarbor desert is in the south of Western Australia. It is huge, and flat, and is essentially a giant slab of limestone. This large flat area, with no significant vegetation, makes it an ideal searching area for meteorite falls. Even better, the limestone rock is white, and fresh meteorites are black, also helping us in searching. The weather is good, so we don’t loose many nights of observing to cloud cover. Australia is a politically stable, well-developed country, so the infrastructure is there to help us, and it’s easy for us to visit. The desert is also in southern hemisphere, which is scientifically interesting, as no camera networks have ever been deployed in the southern hemisphere before (other camera networks).
