Why Use Robotics?
With laparoscopic instruments alone, were limited to what we can do. But, with robotics were able to do more complex procedures through the same smaller incisions, improve clinical capabilities and improve patient outcomes. We improve patient outcomes by; reducing the size of the surgical incision, reducing blood loss, reducing recovery time as well as post-op length of stay, and potentially reduce costs. The incisions for robotic surgery are tiny compared to open surgery and they heal faster with less scar and pain. The body handles puncture wounds a lot better than big incisions. (Here come the slides.) Heres the operating room of the future where a surgeon sits at a console near the patient and operates the controls that operate the robot. The operator looks into a video screen at this station while the robot is positioned over the patient. An assistant, who is either another physician or an experienced nurse practitioner, stands over the patient, as in other surgery, and places ins
