He was renaming a city, so he set up a stone to mark the spot, and then anointed it with oil. I think that was his way of saying that God had chosen him to rename the city, or that God wanted him to rename the city. As for the rest, that’s ridiculous. So because of our slang, the Bible has to mean something else? Let’s suppose you went back to the nineteenth century and told someone their outfit was gay. They would think you meant happy, right? I don’t know if this has occurred to you, but the English language has evolved considerably.
