Why wont the Metz 45 CL – 1 flash gun sync with my Sony A200 DSLR?

Flash could be in auto or manual (yes, no TTL, definitely). Camera would have to be in manual mode.

I have 2 of those flashes that I use with a Sony A300. They work quite well, thank you very much. As a matter of fact, that little avatar pic is me and my A300 and a 45 CL-1 shooting a wedding. 1st… does the flash fire if you push the test button on the back? Yes? Good. The PC cord is plugged into one of those Ebay shoe adapters that cost $10? Yes? Good. The A200 *HAS* to be used in manual mode. You set the ISO, aperture, and shutter speed yourself. In this mode, shutter speed controls ambient light. You can use any shutter speed from 1/125th and below with super steady shot on, and up to max sync speed of 1/160th with the stabilizer off. That’s what the book says, I use it at 1/160th with stabilizer on. You set the flash to match the ISO and aperture settings on the camera. The dial will show you the range at which you can use the flash with those settings… such as 4-15 feet. Fire off a shot or two and see what they look like. Adjust either the flash or the camera to the exposure
