Why would poverty cause parents to abuse children?
There could be many reasons as to why parents abuse their children, but it could be because the parent feels resentful for having children who cost them money and may feel the child is the reason for them being poor, having to pay for food, clothing, medical bills etc. Some people have children with no means of taking care of them, and then resent the fact that every penny they make has to go to providing for their family. it is sad but happens all the time, and may manifest their anger of being poor with violence.
I think it depends on the morals and intelligence of the parents. Financial worry would be the tip of the iceberg, because everyone needs money to survive. Our current government department’s think its ok to withold money from people who claim benefits, when they feel like it, consequently bills don’t get paid, there is no food,gas,electricity and everything comes to a standstill so presumably the parent lashes out at the children (who are seen as a liability) because they wouldn’t get away with it with an adult. It is so unfair but society is to blame, people should be given more help to find jobs and uneducated parents should have more help to increase their knowledge. Money equals security which equals stability…only wish our government could understand this.
