Why would volcanic rocks most likely contain vesicles over plutonic?
Vesicles are small cavities formed by the expansion of bubbles of gas or steam during the solidification of the rock. The texture is often found in extrusive aphanitic, or glassy, igneous rock. Plutonic textures are intrusive type, meaning they occur deep under the earth’s surface. To put in simple context, vesicle texture is common because extrusive volcanic rocks COOL fast and thus are able to keep their characteristic, and are less likely to be destroyed/melted once they are on the earth’s surface. Also, since we know that vesicles occur at the earth’s surface, they are more common/easier to find. Plutonic textures are formed deep under the earth, so it makes sense that there is a smaller chance of acually finding these guys on the earth’s surface via natural events. Hope this helps.
