—– Since I’ve had both Yakima and Thule racks, I’ve noticed definite differences between the two companies versions of bike tray systems. However, unlike bike trays a basic ski rack is very simple in both design and operation. The major difference I noticed with the Powder Hound was the easy access release button for each upper arm assembly. The Thule 724 ski rack in the store had a smaller release button which was also harder to push when mounted on a tall vehicle. The Yakima Powder Hound was also $15 cheaper than the Thule, so that helped a bit too. —– Installation, easy or agonizing? —– Thankfully this Yakima product (like all it other products) is easily convertible for use on Thule crossbars. All you need to do is break a few tabs free from the crossbar brackets and they will snap on your rectangular Thule bars.
