Will a momma cat remove and/or bury her dead kitten?

This depends on the age of the kitten. Males will kill kittens, yes, but it sounds as though the mother may have fought him off. She may have moved the baby somewhere much safer (in her view) or she may have killed the kitten to protect it. We do not know why this happens but it does. Please do not blame the mother – this is highly instinctive behaviour and as natural to a cat as sneezing is, for us. If the babies are smal, then she would have eaten the remains. Again, this sounds gross but is absolutely normal for felines. It is more likely that she has moved the baby. Do not be tempted to disturb the new nest or visit it – as she may then truly become stressed enough to kill the baby. Just watch and see if she keeps returning to a certain place every time you feed her etc. I hope the outcome is good.
