Will a VGA to DVI adapter produce HD images on a HD monitor?

You CANNOT use a DVI-to-VGA adapter with the PS3. That will NEVER work. The PS3 has NO native VGA support. You will get NO image if you attempt to connect the PS3 to a VGA-only monitor using a simple DVI-to-VGA adapter. DVI-to-VGA adapters are intended for video cards that have a DVI-I output which can also send out an analog VGA signal. The HDMI port on the PS3 is NOT DVI-I– IT IS DIGITAL ONLY. The only way you can connect a PS3 to a VGA-only monitor is with a signal converter box or an active adapter (that has a signal conversion chip) of some sort. There is a cable on the market with a built-in converter chip that can convert the PS3’s Analog Multiport YPbPr to VGA, but the image quality is very poor. I would strongly recommend against using that. The HDMI port on the PS3 will ONLY work with HDCP-compliant monitors. It works best with HDMI-equipped monitors. .
