Will Gravesham Borough Council clear/repair blocked or defective drains?

The Council is only responsible for clearing blockages and repairing drainage defects for its own properties e.g. Council housing. Within the area of Gravesham, Southern Water Services are responsible for the maintenance of the public mains sewer. If you wish to inform them of a problem with their sewer you can contact them on telephone number 0845 278 0845 or via their website www.southernwater.co.uk It is the responsibility of the occupier and/or owner of private premises to remedy any defects within the private drainage which serves their property. The same applies to cesspools and septic tanks. It is strongly recommended that you first call your buildings insurance provider before you employ a contractor yourself as they may organise the clearance and work for you.
