Will i need a Cesarean after previous Cesarean with my first baby?

I was in the same situation as you with my second child. My first child was born via an emergency c-section due to my labour not progressing quickly enough and my baby getting distressed. I spent the whole of my second pregnancy worrying about what was going to happen with the labour that I could think of nothing else. I spoke to my midwife and she helped me to calm down about the situation. My midwife and medical team pushed for me to try and give birth naturally and I did it! I think the best thing to do is to speak to your doctor/midwife and explain your worries and fears and they will be happy to help ease your mind and give you the answers you are looking for.

For the vast majority of moms, VBAC is not only safe, but it can bring better outcomes for both mother and baby.

You do not have to do either. I also had a c-section a year and a half ago for labour not progressing. My doctor has told me that having a vaginal birth (VBAC) for the next one would be the safest option. In most situations, c-sections are more dangerous than vaginal births, both for you and for the baby. It depends on what you are comfortable with as well. In most cases you are able to choose to have a repeat c-section if you would prefer. But as someone else said, every c-section you have makes it more complicated for you to have another baby in the future. For me I will definitely try to have a VBAC as my c-section was traumatizing for me, and the recovery was so painful and I still have some pain in my scar now. I could not imagine having to recover from another c-section while taking care of my toddler! However, if you are in the US, some hosptals are not allowing VBACs now (not for medical reasons, but more for fears of law suits I believe). So you may need to do some research if

It really depends on how they did the cesarean. I would ask your doctor about it. They have different ways of cutting you when the do a c-section. Some allow for natural births later on and some don’t. Like I said, ask your doctor.

No, you do not need another cesarean section, and statistically it is much safer to have a vaginal birth after cesarean. I suggest finding a provider that is VBAC friendly and researching it further. Contact your local ICAN chapter, you can find it at www.ican-online.org and also look at www.vbacfacts.com it has a lot of great information about the safety of a vaginal delivery after a cesarean section, and the risks associated with repeat cesarean sections.
