Will Militant Atheism Harm the Democratic Party? Saturday March 10, 2007 Anti-atheist bigotry and attacks from so-called liberals and progressives seem to have been increasing lately. Perhaps that’s just a subjective impression that isn’t entirely true, but I suspect that more and more religious liberals are worried that they won’t be able to attract votes from anti-abortion, anti-gay, anti-science Christians if atheists are permitted to maintain a very public role in American politics. How will the Democratic Party attract larger number of bigots if it doesn’t take a bigoted stand against godless infidels? The truth is, anti-atheist bigotry is widespread in America and generally unquestioned. Many people take it for granted that atheists are less moral, less patriotic, and should be treated as inferiors.
