Will the current Sioux Falls Water Reclamation Facility (WRF) be able to adequately treat current flow plus the increased flow expected from the growth of the City?
• The facility was built in 1982 with periodic renovations and additions and can currently treat a design average capacity of 19.7 MGD (million gallons per day). • In 2002 the facility treated an average of 14 MGD, and with the expected growth by the year 2025, an additional average flow of 7.5 MGD is projected from the ESSS project area. • Therefore, the current treatment facility will need improvements to handle the projected flows by 2025. Addition to the treatment facility was included in its designed and allowed open space for additional treatment to be built when needed. • Wastewater would be directed to the WRF via a lift station and force main system. This is Option 1 for the ESSS project.
