Will the CWC service include Wi-MAX and/or 802.11n capabilities to complement Wi-Fi 802.11b/g within the present and/or future implementation?
Future deployments and utilization of 802.16 Wi-MAX and 802.11n Wi-Fi are being followed closely by the CWC. An RFP requirement is a recurring technology refresh program to ensure that ongoing developments in Wi-MAX, Wi-Fi and other wireless technologies are implemented and leveraged as future services offerings. Considering today’s state of wireless technologies and consumer equipment saturation, it is likely that proposals will incorporate Wi-MAX technologies into network backhaul links and Wi-Fi technologies will support end-device connectivity. Reasons for this include cost effectiveness and end device compatibility. A key objective of the CWC’s initiative is to provide affordable broadband services that can be used by all aspects of the community. Currently, Wi-Fi is a standards-based and relatively mature technology that enjoys high end-device saturation (laptops, PDA’s, smartphones, etc.). In addition, Wi-Fi continues to advance its technical capability, evidenced most recently
