Yes it is. Conrete is a natural product made from some of the most abundant materials on earth – sand, gravel, water and limestone. The biggest energy consumer in a concrete countertop is the production of portland cement from limestone. As such, we replace 15-30% of our portland cement with fly ash, VCAS, and silica fume – industrial by-products that otherwise go to landfills. Using GFRC, an average kitchen counter will only contain 100-150 pounds of portland cement – creating only the smallest of small carbon footprints. Perhaps more importantly, our counters are made locally, from local materials, as opposed to being carved out of hillsides on the other side of the globe. Not to mention transport/shipping.
