Well, many people have tried that approach; however, results shown in medical literature does not support the effectiveness of such a practice. Treating very large veins with sclerotherapy can be problematic. Many times when patients come to us who have had sclerotherapy attempted on their greater saphenous vein, only a few portions of the vein have closed, if indeed any of the vein has closed at all. This can make it much more difficult or impossible to thread a catheter or filament into the vein to complete the job.
