In the past year we have invested heavily in a Regional Ceefax service for every region. From this platform we are now planning new regional news services as part of BBC Online. We ve also invested in strengthening all our regional news operations so that they can contribute fully to News 24 s round-the-clock service. The vast majority of this investment has benefited viewers in the English Regions. We are also planning a significant investment in English regional centres next year to enable DTT and D Cable services to carry all our regional opt-outs. There is naturally a limit to the levels of investment the BBC can make at these very early stages of digital take-up. An overall cap of no more than 10% of licence fee income to be spent on new services across the BBC s entire television, radio and online output has currently been set. We will continue to review the appropriate balance over the coming years.
