1. Lavender tulips are easy to grow and a beautiful additions to any garden.  Once the bulb is put in the ground at the proper time it blooms again and again every spring. The color is beautiful perfect for weddings, baby showers, and regular family events. You will enjoy the color lavendar in your garden in the spring or making a fresh arrangement for the dinner table.

    Storage of Bulbs

    Tulip bulbs can be stored before planting . Above the ground storage requires cleaning off the bulbs with damp paper towel and letting dry in the sun for a few days. After that store in a flat tray or container that has dry sand, peat moss or vermiculite. Each bulb should be covered with sand peat moss mixture. The container should be well ventilated and placed in an area that is not too humid. A cool dark place that is not too humid so bulbs will not rot.  The basement is often a good place to store the lavendar tulip store bulbs.

    Planting Bulbs 

    Tulip bulbs should be planted during September and October in the ground before the first frost. They will bloom in the spring and then every year after that. You can also plant tulip bulbs in pots for indoor growth. When planting outside pick a place that is sunny and does not get soggy from poor water drainage. Weed the area well then dig the soil and remove any weeds or rocks. Dig the hole for each bulb about  six to eight inches deep. Put the wide base of the bulb in first with the pointed top up. Leave at least six inches between each bulb planted. Add peat moss, compost and fertilizer to your soil.

    Press each bulb into the ground then fill the hole with soil. Water the bulbs planted evenly and lightly. Do not water until leaves poke through the ground. Too much water will cause rot.  When planting for winter cover with mulch and water lightly once. Mulch will protect the bulbs during the winter. After winter remove mulch and let the soil soak up sunlight and water. Use fertilizers when watering that are designed for tulips and are water soluble. Healthy growth requires study healthy stems coming through the ground. Make sure your lavender tulip bulbs will be coming up correctly.

    Potted Tulips

    Buy a pot three times the length of the bulb. This is so when you put soil in the pot it will be deep enough. Twelve inches deep is a good depth. Ceramic material of terra cotta is better than plastic. This is because plastic overheats and can cause rot in bulbs. Good drainage is important too in pots so they must have holes at the bottom. Rinse thoroughly before adding the soil. Add good soil and la layers of sand to promote drainage.Leave at least six inches between bulbs even in pots for adequate spacing.  Do not overcrowd the bulbs. Water and store in protected area like basement for winter. The temperature for storage should be about 50 degrees or below when storing. Bring them out in early spring sit in the sun in the house until danger of frost has passed.  Lavender tulips are a welcome addition inside or outside the home.
