It really depends on the club. A high-profile, high-budget nightclub might want a trained professional just for insurance purposes. A lower-profile, sleazier spot might just want someone who looks threatening enough to keep people in line by intimidation. It’s really going to vary based on the type of club, the attitude of management, the city and the area. It’s not really a good career choice however. It’s a boring, tedious, mind-numbing kind of job and it’s usually a position held by someone who has no other skills or prospects.
