Are daddy long legs spiders the most venemous spiders?
First of all…it seems that no one else seems to know that daddy long legs (Harvestmen) are NOT even spiders. They are arachnids, but they are not spiders. [EDIT!!: For some reason, people do not seem to understand how daddy long legs can be arachnids, and not spiders. It is the same that butterflies are insects, but not beetles. Please read these links so anyone who doesn’t believe this can further understand why daddy long legs are NOT spiders: http://www.washington.edu/burkemuseum/sp… http://www.acsu.buffalo.edu/~insrisg/nat… How much more proof must I provide so everyone understands??] Second, daddy long legs do not even have venom glands OR fangs, they have chelicerae. Third of all, their chelicerae are not strong enough to even pierce a human’s or most other mammal’s skin. There
No thats is an urba myth. In 2004, the Discovery Channel show MythBusters set out to test the daddy long-legs myth After measuring the spider’s fangs at approximately 0.25 mm (average human skin thickness varies from about 0.5mm to 4mm), the show’s host was apparently bitten, although the bite produced little more than a mild short-lived burning sensation. This appears to confirm the suspicion that daddy long leg can penetrate human skin, but that their venom is practically harmless to humans. Additionally, recent research by Alan Van Dyke has shown that daddy long legg venom is actually relatively weak in its effects on insects as well.
No. They’re not even spiders, technically. They are related but they belong to a separate order (the Opiliones) commonly called the Harvestmen. They don’t have venom glands at all so there’s no way they could be poisonous. There are, however, spiders that look similar to Daddy Longlegs, which can be mistaken for them. These do have venom glands but, with the exception of maybe someone who’s severely allergic to them, they are not deadly. The most venomous (known) species of spider is the Australian Funnel Web.
