It is prescribed for humans too. As for Clarinex, you may want to check with the vet first to be sure it is fine for your dog. Benedryl did basically nothing for my dog but make him tired. Another OTC antihistamine, my vet recommended was Tavist. I tried it and it helped a bit. The biggest problem with the antihistamines is that the dogs bodies get used to them and they dont work anymore so you constantly have to change them up every few months. The other one you may want to ask your vet about is an antihistimine that is relatively new and contains a corticosteroid.
