Can others access my computer files through my wifi connection?
Levels of difficulty of getting on the network: 1. Unencrypted Network: Easy. Little computer expertise required. 2. WEP encrypted network: Fairly easy for someone who knows what they are doing (read hacker) 3. WPA encrypted network: Harder for someone who knows what they are doing (read hacker) 4. WPA encrypted network with MAC address filtering: Super hard. Only crackable by those with advanced tools who are persistent. Levels of difficulty of getting access to files: 1. Whole drive shared: Easy 2. Only certain folders shared: only the shared files are accessible 3. Firewall off: The right tools are needed. 4. No folders shared: Super hard. REMEMBER: – If the wi-fi router still has the default password then people can quite easily (with the right knowledge) destroy your wi-fi router. – Only people in range of your wi-fi router can attempt to break in.
