Do bus routes have priority when plowing snow?
No. Nearly every road in the Municipality is a bus route, so it would not be feasible to attempt to plow them first. The Municipality operates ten trucks equipped with plows and sanders that plow a total of 650 kilometers of hard surfaced roads. The remaining 1,620 kilometers of gravel roads are plowed by divisional graders. The graders also assist the plow trucks by clearing the shoulders off surfaced roads when necessary. Each of the trucks has a set route to follow. The first priority is hard surfaced, major municipal roads, remaining hard surface roads, and then subdivisions. It can take 1-2 days for each plow truck to complete it’s route and about 4-7 days for each grader to complete it’s route. In outlying areas, private contractors are hired to clear snow.
