Do i have to use handbrake in 3 point turn?

in a driving test, yes you have to use the handbrake (i failed one of my driving tests for not putting it on, thats classed as a major mistake), however once you pass the test no you dont have to do it, in fact a 3 point turn is a heck of a lot easier without having to use it…

To pass your test you will definitely have to use your handbrake even though you will probably be asked to demonstrate a 3 point turn on a level road. You will find out later what happens if you try to do a 3 point turn on a sloping road without using the handbrake. Don’t be smart, be safe.

Now I have only been driving 43 years, and over 1 1/2 million miles, but I really don’t understand why anybody would use the park brake while making a 3-pointer, or a Y-turn. It will easily double the time it takes, and for a newbie, probably triple it. The exception could be if you are exercising the turn on a steep grade, for a newbie who hasn’t truly mastered shifting and braking to the point of reflex actions, especially with a standard transmission. However, even on hills I have never had the need to use the e-brake on the few occasions I had to make such a turn, and it didn’t matter whether I was driving standard or automatic. I guess if your instructor tells you to, that’s what you do, but, like I said, I never have, not when I received my first licence, and not when I upgraded to drive taxis, ambulances, and small buses. Here is how I would do a 3-pointer, and note, no mention of e-brake. http://ww
