Tiger lilies are prolific bloomers. The large spotted orange flowers bloom on individual stems and have a sweet fragrance. There are two varieties of tiger lily: the oriental and the common wildflower. The oriental tiger lily grows from a bulb, and the wildflower tiger lily grows from tuberous roots and earned the nickname ditch lily because it was commonly found in the moist soil of ditches. Both oriental tiger lilies and the wild flower variety require the same care. They are hardy from USDA hardiness zones 4 to 11 and an easy-to-care-for addition to your garden landscape. Select a location in your garden that gets full sun. Plant your tiger lilies in mid to late fall. Loosen the soil with a shovel to a depth of 12 inches.
