However, bacteria can reside in the material and cause illness throughout the household. It is important to clean your bath sponge every two or three days. This will prevent the spread of germs. In addition, purchase a new bath sponge every two months. Plug the bathroom sink. Fill up with steaming hot water. Add two drops of dish soap to the water while it is running. Stir with the wooden spoon until the soap is foaming. Add the bath sponge(s) to the hot water. Push down with the wooden spoon. Let soak for about 30 minutes. Stir the water again. Move the bath sponge around to soak up the soapy water. Drain the sink. Run warm water over the sponge to cool down. Once the bath sponges are warm to the touch, squeeze the soap out.
