Set up the ironing board and plug in the iron. Set the iron to its hottest setting and allow it to fully warm up. Lay a buffer pad on the ironing board with the waxy side facing up. Cover the waxy side with a double thickness of paper towels. Run the hot iron over the paper towels, moving it back and forth quickly for about 20 seconds.
