How Do You Make A Habitat For Hermann’S Tortoises?

0

• Indoor Enclosure – Hermann’s can be kept in indoor or outdoor enclosures (if the weather permits it). An indoor enclosure can be simply constructed using plywood (don’t use cedar or pine) or a plastic container (See pictures). The enclosure should be 2 feet by 4 feet for one adult tortoise and larger for more tortoises. • Outdoor Enclosure – If you have a yard, choose a sunny area of about 4 feet by 2 feet or larger for your tortoise pen. You should put a fence around this area to prevent your tortoises from escaping, from wondering too far and getting lost and from other animals that can hurt them. Hermann’s tortoises are famous diggers, so you should dig and put your fence deep in the ground. • Substrate – A soil/sand mix, cypress bark or shredded newspaper is usually recommended as substrate.
