How Do You Make A Patchwork Tote Bag?

This basic quilted tote bag evokes nostalgia for the 1960s and 1970s. Check craft stores and books for patterns to make other styles of quilted handbags. Construct one quilt square according to pattern directions. For a simple patchwork design, sew assorted fabric squares of equal size into a larger square (the size of the finished tote bag – approximately 14 to 16 inches, plus a 1/4-inch seam allowance all around). To assemble, pin the right sides of the small squares together and join them with a 1/4-inch seam. Cut out a piece of material for the back of the tote bag – the same size as the quilt square. Pin the right sides of the quilted piece to the back. Stitch a 1/4-inch seam on three sides. Leave the top open. Turn the bag right side out. Cut two squares of muslin or another lining material the same size as the quilt square, including the seam allowance. Set seams on three sides. Turn the lining right side out and place it inside the bag. Turn under the top edges and hand stitch
