Thermofoil cabinets can be an easy, painless way to update your kitchen. With no mess, no paint and limited signs of imperfections, they’re a great way to add some new color quickly. But when you want to change the color again, you’ll have a few problems. Thermofoil is nothing more than a thin layer of vinyl, and vinyl is also impossible to paint. However, with a primer made for plastics, some subsequent sanding and a free weekend, you can paint your Thermofoil cabinets and give them an update. Use a manual or electric screwdriver to remove all doors, drawer fronts and fixtures from the cabinets. Deconstructing the cabinets as much as possible will allow you to paint all hidden corners and crevices with ease. Clean any dirt or oils from the cabinet surfaces with a clean rag soaked in hot water and mild dish detergent. Dry the cabinets with a new, clean, dry rag when the cabinets are clean.
