How Do You Write Metal Song Lyrics?
• Think of something that really grinds your gears or amuses you. Politics, war, death, gangs, line dancing, cheerleaders and anything else are good examples. • Think of a song title that works with the lyrics (could be added at any point, usually takes a line out of the song). • Write what you thought about on paper, in an essay form so you know the main idea of what you want to cover. • Take the essay and condense it into poem form. Depending on what kind of metal you are into, you may not need to make your lyrics rhyme (see tips for details). • Make the lyrics match up with the guitar part. • Sing the song a couple times with the band. If it doesn’t work out, repeat from step 3 on. • Sing until you puke (not literally).
