How does the Guardian Alert backup sensor work?

The system is wired to the vehicle backup light circuit. The sensor is powered on when the transmission is shifted into reverse. There are three distinct distance ranges in the coverage zone. An audio/visual alert is signaled when the distance diminishes between the sensor and an object inside the coverage zone. Objects behind the vehicle within the coverage zone which are stationary relative to the backup sensor are not reported by the display indicator. The vehicle must be moving toward the object at a speed of 1/2 miles per hour or higher (approximately 9 inches per second) for the sensor to respond. Objects moving toward the sensor will also be detected when the vehicle is not moving provided that the transmission is in reverse. See the How It Works page for a more complete description.
