How long will a female border terrier be in season?

Hi, Border Terriers are the same as any other breed. She will be in season for 3 weeks (count from the 1st day you saw blood). After 7-10 days her discharge will lessen – this is when she is at her most receptive & you must keep her away from male dogs. She will be in season for 3 weeks, but to be on the safe side, keep her away from males for 28 days from the first day as all b1tches vary. The best time to have her spayed is mid way between seasons, so book her in 10-12 weeks from now. If she is spayed before her 1st season (obviously, yours won’t be!) there is a decreased chance of her developing breast cancer, but there is an increased chance of her being incontinent & also she would never mature into a sensible young lady! I always allow my bitches to have 1 season. Mammary cancer is comparitively rare in dogs anyway. Good luck with your girl.
