Is cracking knuckles bad?

Ha i broke my thumb and had the same exact question for the hand surgeon (defiantly a professional). He says that cracking anything is the release of built up pressure. By no means does it make the knuckles or any other joints bigger (as some people say). He claims that it does not make the fingers or toes crooked either (that is caused by arthritis in the hands and fingers). However if you have arthritis in your fingers, toes, shoulders, or back it would hurt to release that pressure by popping it. So to answer your question, no, it doesn’t hurt anything. That myth probably started because it annoys some people.
