Is feminism falsifiable?
“Falsifiability or refutability is the logical possibility that an assertion could be shown false by a particular observation or physical experiment. That something is “falsifiable” does not mean it is false; rather, it means that if the statement were false, then its falsehood could be demonstrated.” (Wikipedia, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Falsifiability) I believe that this statement would hold true of Feminism. As I believe that the statement is false, and I believe that there is a means of prooving so. Central to the ideals of feminism, is the notion that men and women ought to be equal. However, where the fall down is in the definition of the word ‘equal’. The word equality is often used when arguing for “equal rights” or “equal pay, for equal work”, etc. It is also used in the sense that men and women are equal in capabilility – and it is this latter usage of the word which feminist teachings hinge upon. The problem is quite simply that men and women are OBVIOUSLY not the same,
