  My actual words in Steps to the Altar were Benni received her first “grownup” kiss from Jack under the pepper tree at the Carnegie library. I will assume that most of my readers will understand the difference between the kiss she got from Duck when she was 12 (which Emory had to pay Duck to give her) and the more serious and intimate one she shared with Jack when she was 15.
